Hall

Hall, has been home to the Chichester Family since the early 14th century. The house is approached up a mile long wooded drive. The current Victorian house, a vernacular mansion in the 16th century style, was built in the 1840's for Robert Chichester by Philip C.Hardwick. Hardwick produced a series of grand reception and family rooms with splendid views over the Taw valley and a staircase hall which forms the centre of the house.

At the far end of the building lies an imposing Gothic Hall with oak tie-beam roof, stencilled windows, stained glass and a minstrels' gallery. Outside there is a medley of estate buildings including a medieval barn and a 17th century stable block.

Nearby is Herner Church, a private chapel belonging to the Chichester family and dating to the 1880's. Hall, which is registered with the Historic Houses Association, is available as a wedding and events venue and a B & B with a difference.

We enjoyed a weekend in this amazing house. The views, the house and the huge room were a real treat! The owners gave us a warm welcome and were the perfect hosts throughout our stay. I couldn't ask for anything more from a B & B - it was peaceful, quiet, welcoming and spotlessly clean. Looking forward to going back.
